Team Thin Ice Finishes 4th in Etchells Jaguar Midwinter Championship

Miami Beach, Florida (February 4, 2006) – Sixty-eight boats competed in the Etchells Jaguar Midwinter Championship February 1st -4th on Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida.  Eight Races were held in varying conditions from 5 knots to 20 knots.  Throughout the regatta the wind direction ranged the complete 360 degrees.  The challenging conditions called for consistent finishes.

Kevin Burnham and Ched Proctor crewing for Stuart Hebb on Thin Ice finished in 4th place, two points behind 3rd.  Stuart Hebb, a long time friend of Kevin's, was the top amateur skipper in the regatta.  Kiwi and America's Cup sailor Cameron Appleton won the event. Sailmakers Jud Smith and Vince Brun were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Stuart, Kevin and Ched were very happy with their 4th place finish in this event.  Stuart described the regatta saying: "I feel that we sailed well.  I had not raced the boat for two years, so to jump into this event and finish in 4th place was tremendous. My job was to get us off the starting line and drive the boat. Ched Proctor set the boat up and got us going quickly.  Kevin Burnham, as tactician, did an excellent job getting the boat around the race course in a smart fashion.  Everything just sort of seemed to click."

The Jaguar Midwinter Regatta was extremely well run.  The race committee had some trying conditions over the four days and managed to get off all scheduled eight races. The last race on Sunday was shortened significantly due to severe thunderstorms coming in from the Southwest. Everyone made it safely into the harbor, just before the storm hit. Thank you to Jaguar for sponsoring the regatta and to Biscayne Bay Yacht Club and Shake-A-Leg Miami for hosting the event.
