After 30 years of campaigning to win an Olympic Gold Medal, my dream finally came true in Athens 2004. The vision of winning an Olympic Medal came in 1975 when I was introduced to the 470 through my good friend Steve Benjamin. Having sailed every Olympic Trials since 1984, I never gave up on my dream of winning a Gold Medal. My determination brought me to the Olympic Games in 1992 in Barcelona - 17 years after I first started campaigning. There, Morgan Reeser and I won the Silver Medal. This only fueled my hopes of winning the Olympic Gold. Twelve years later, I finally accomplished my goal, at the age of 47, sailing in the 470 with Paul Foerster. After thirty years of positive attitude and a very strong work ethic, I am the oldest Olympic Gold Medalist in the 2004 Olympic Games.
While my passion is still racing sailboats and coaching, I am also passing along the skills I have honed which enabled me to reach my goal:
